As a non-invasive technology, VersaTron 4Paws allows animals to receive treatment with minimal recovery  time. Most dogs return home within 1-2 hours directly following the treatment and can return to typical activities at the veterinarian’s discretion. The non-invasive nature eliminates the need for a sterile environment and the risk of infection.

Because VersaTron 4Paws is noninvasive, it does not produce scar tissue and avoids the potential morbidity and mortality associated with traditional surgical procedures. In clinical application by practitioners, side effects were reported as insignificant. Additionally, its use does not preclude subsequent surgical treatment.

Proven Efficacy

Efficacy of VersaTron 4Paws has been reported to be equal to or better than NSAIDs in majority of patients. Additionally, VersaTron 4Paws provides prompt symptom improvement. Mechanism of Action

VersaTron 4Paws treatment aids in healing by stimulating the body’s regeneration process. The focused high-energy shock wave used in VersaTron travels through the skin and soft tissues. Energy is released as a shock wave at tissue interfaces where the density of the tissue or impedance of the sound waves changes. These changes of impedance occur where soft tissue, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bone meet. The energy released leads to a cellular reaction that causes the release of various substances including BMP-2, eNOS, VEGF, and PCNA. Neovascularization takes place, leading to increased blood supply to the treated tissue, resulting in tissue regeneration in tendons, joints, and bone.

VersaTron 4Paws Applications & Administration

VersaTron 4Paws is recommended for the management of a variety of musculoskeletal disorders in dogs. VersaTron 4Paws can be used in combination with anti-inflammatory drugs, surgical intervention, and physical treatment. Shock wave treatment is beneficial for the following applications in the canine population:

• Osteoarthritis of the shoulder, hip, back, elbow, stifle, carpus, and/or tarsus

Administration: Easy for the Practitioner & Easy on the Patient

Candidates for VersaTron 4Paws treatment should undergo a full physical exam with blood and urine analyses to evaluate overall health and anesthetic risk. A complete orthopedic and neurologic exam is essential for diagnosing musculoskeletal pathology and ruling out any underlying neurological disease. Preparation of the treatment area is minimal and requires clipping of the dog’s fur to the size of the membrane of the treatment head and cleaning the area with alcohol. Most treatments take less than 10 minutes including skin preparation and therefore a short-acting anesthetic agent is preferable. When implementing shock wave treatment, it is essential to treat all regions that appear to be painful to ensure best results. Clinical results prove that the best outcomes are obtained when the focus is directed on the area between the soft tissue and the bone, as well as directly on the joint itself. Coupling gel must be used and the shock wave treatment applicator should be moved in a continuous, level movement over the region of interest and the surrounding tissue.

Customized Treatment. 5 mm and 20 mm VersaTrodes allow shock waves to penetrate to different depths while various energy settings for each Trode allow further customization. The software allows the practitioner to choose the number and pace of shocks to be administered.

Treatment Precautions: Treatments should NOT be directed at gas-filled cavities, such as lungs or intestines, or the head area, as serious injuries may result.

Warning: ESWT produces a series of loud noises which may be frightening or painful to animals undergoing treatment. An animal’s reaction to the device may vary with the area being treated. In some cases, sedation may be required for safe restraint.

Precaution: A post-treatment period of analgesia is known to exist following ESWT. Extra care must be taken to ensure the underlying musculoskeletal disorders have improved enough to allow increased exercise.
